Modernization and expansion of BULATSA microwave network

With the implementation of this project, BULATSA modernizes and expands its microwave network, which provides essential telecommunications for air traffic management purposes. Microwave nodes provide integration into a common network of remote technological facilities owned by the enterprise, such as radars, sensors, VHF radio communication centers, and navigation systems. These facilities are situated in mountainous and remote areas, far away from populated regions. Considering the paramount importance of safety in the enterprise’s activities, the microwave network ensures the reservation of business-critical information flows and guarantees a minimum level of operational communications during emergencies.
The microwave network is built following requirements aimed at long-term high availability, fault tolerance, and repairability. The equipment is selected to support legacy telecommunication services and enable gradual migration to prospective technologies in the industry. The proprietary microwave communications facilitate easy management of interfaces and capacities during testing and deployment of new systems and functionalities by the users.
The modernization of the microwave network is carried out at an accelerated pace in compliance with European Commission Decision (EC) 2014/276/EU of May 2, 2014, amending Decision 2008/411/EC concerning the harmonization of the radio spectrum for terrestrial systems capable of providing electronic communications services in the Community, as well as the Strategic Roadmap for 5G in Europe.
