Introduction of surveillance data distribution system SDDS-EU into regular operation

Since January 2024, the surveillance data distribution system SDDS-EU has been put into operations. The system was developed by EUROCONTROL and has the necessary performance and functionality to process all modern surveillance technologies (WAM, ADS-B, ELS/EHS Mode S, etc.), while at the same time its architecture is scalable and allows for capacity increase when it is necessary.
The SDDS-EU system has the following functional capabilities:
• Data conversion – the SDDS-EU system allows more flexible integration of various radar sources to widely used standards for the exchange of surveillance information ин Europe such as ASTERIX, providing independence to the end systems using the radar information;
• Filtering – allows the application of static and dynamic filters to achieve data flows that meet the requirements of different users and at the same time prevents the damage that would be caused by uncontrolled data loss due to overload;
• Firewall – restricts the access of external users of the system to security-sensitive information flows;
• ADS-B Sever – SDDS-EU acts as an ADS-B server in processing multiple ADS-B ground stations, filtering out duplicate information and aggregating information related to the same target.
The commissioning of the SDDS-EU system provided BULATSA with two independent modern systems for the distribution of surveillance data – SDDS-NG and SDDS-EU, which allowed the decommissioning of the rather old and reached the end of its life RMCDE system without loss of redundancy.
SDDS-EU system is integrated in BULATSA based on a validated hardware architecture from EUROCONTROL, which helps to achieve high levels of safety and productivity, as well as effective integration and dissemination of surveillance information with other European air navigation service providers.
