SESAR 2020
SESAR JOINT UNDERTAKING AND SESAR 2020
The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) was established in 2007 with the purpose of coordinating all ATM research and development activities in EU which are united in SESAR Programme.
The first SESAR Programme covers the period 2009 – 2016. The next stage of the Programme is planned in accordance with the financial parameters for the period 2014 – 2020. SESAR Joint Undertaking is a unique public-private partnership aimed at the development and improvement of the new-generation ATM systems capable to handle the increasing air traffic in accordance with the defined performance targets for safety, cost efficiency and environment. SJU is also the responsible body for the elaboration and maintenance of the European ATM Master Plan representing the roadmap for the planned technological changes and innovations in the ATM area.
The Council of the EU extended the mandate of SJU until 31 December 2024 in order to fulfil the continuation of the old Programme – “Research and Innovation Programme SESAR 2020”.
SESAR 2020 shall demonstrate the applicability of the technological and operational solutions already developed within the first Programme in larger and operationally integrated environments. Meanwhile, the second programme shall prioritize the research and innovations in a number of areas, like ATM, airport capacity, network service, distribution of ATM infrastructure and many more.
In 2016 the composition of SJU was renewed. BULATSA was invited to participate in SESAR 2020 as a partner of the Italian Air Navigation Services Provider – ENAV SpA and the Italian industrial company Leonardo.
