BULATSA Modernizes Systems in the Control Towers of Sofia, Varna and Burgas Airports

BULATSA has launched a project for the deployment of a new integrated Air Traffic Services system (I-ATS) at Sofia, Varna and Burgas airports. The project is part of the company’s strategy to modernize air traffic management systems and enhance the safety, efficiency and capacity of airport control towers.

The new system will integrate information from multiple sources into a single operational environment, providing air traffic controllers with an improved operational picture and advanced tools to support enhanced safety levels and decision-making.

As part of the project, the A-SMGCS system at Sofia Airport Control Tower will be upgraded, while all three airports will be equipped with an innovative Human-Machine Interface (HMI), electronic flight strips and new flight data processing tools.

The system will support compliance with the requirements of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/116 of 1 February 2021 on the establishment of Common Project One (CP1) and will provide a technological foundation for future developments in line with European regulatory requirements.

The solution will be delivered by Saab Netherlands B.V.. Through this project, BULATSA continues the modernization of its air navigation infrastructure and its preparation for future European operational and technological requirements.
